Paragraph reformatting and extra return after multiple item citations

Hi all,

I think this is different from some of the issues with citations appearing in a different style. This is me working on the a Word document on a Mac, and only updating the citations via Zotero. If I have multiple citations (e.g. appearing as '3-5') Zotero changes the formatting of the whole paragraph and adds an extra space and a extra return/enter after the citation. I cannot delete these with a backspace, as it will delete the whole citation then, I can only delete with the 'delete'/fn+backspace, and then when I do that, the formatting for the rest of the paragraph below will also change. Any suggestions how to resolve this? This happened two updates ago. Otherwise Zotero seems to be working fine.

What version of Word and macOS? Can you reproduce this in a new document? What citation style are you using?
  • OS 26.5.1, but occurred in previous versions too. Word 15.29. Yes, this has been happening for several months on multiple documents, with multiple citation styles (but I think all of them Vancouveresq). I think it happens whenever a '-' is in the citation, i.e. '1,3' would not trigger this happening, but '1-3' would.

That is a very outdated version of Word. You should be able to get a newer version, even if you're staying on Office 2016, although it is no longer officially supported by Microsoft, so you'd best switch to a supported version if possible.
