Hello : My ID is 1527446607 I have the same issue, updating Zotero does not fix it as well as reinstalling Word plug-in, updating Word and closing+reopening everything. I'm stuck and I do not know what to do anymore to fix this problem.
@dstillman is it expected to take long to download/apply updates please? It's already been 45 minutes... I also lost the whole reference list which disappeared from the end of my document. When highlighting in-text, refs still get greyed out, Document Preferences opens and still says Vancouver style, Zotero itself opens normally, ADDIN ZOTERO_ITEM CSL_CITATION is visible when pressing alt F9, one citation may also have become corrupted before this update. Kindly help/advise. I need to submit soon and was nearing completion.
@damnation, thank you so much for your input. Thankfully I'd managed after stopping it 2 hours in and restarting everything. Wasnt sure if i should.. It clearly froze. Back to working finally :) truly appreciate though :)
I have tried to run the update for Zotero and it has apparently been working for several hours. I have re-started Zotero three or four times, closed the whole laptop down. tried a manual re-start and it still shows as updating !!

Windows, Microsoft Word, Zotero 7.0.9 (64-bit).
When I click "Add/Edit Citation" in Word, I immediately receive the message:
"Zotero experienced an error updating your document. Would you like to review troubleshooting options?"
The problem occurs even in a new blank document. I have already reinstalled the Microsoft Word add-in from Zotero (Settings → Cite → Word Processors), but the issue remains.
If you're still getting this error, make sure you're running Zotero 9.0.5. If Help → "Check for Updates…" isn't working, and you've tried restarting Zotero, close Zotero and reinstall Zotero 9.0.5 from the download page. Your data won't be affected either way.
If you're getting an error in Zotero 9.0.5, that would be an unrelated problem and you should start a new thread with a Report ID.

If your bibliography was lost, just reinsert it again.
