Request: Bring back "classic view"

First: Thank you for all your work in developing and continuously upgrading Zotero. I have been using it for years and am currently working on my PhD thesis with Zotero. I appreciate all the year-long effort and it has helped me a lot.

I know, I am not the first one to bring that up, but I can really not understand why the "classic view" had to be removed. In my opinion, it was much more intuitive than the new view - other people might feel differently, especially if they are using only the keyboard. But for me, it is simply better organized in the classic view.

Furthermore, the new mode takes much longer to add a citation into WORD. Using the classic view, the citation was added without a break, now there is a loading screen every time which takes a few seconds.

I just don't understand why you could not provide the option for the users who learned to love the classic view? Is it too much of an effort to maintain (serious question, as I am not a developer)?

If there was a possibility to add the "classic view" back into Zotero, I - and I think also many others - would be very happy. I can also see a path in which I would switch to another processor, as I really don't find the unified view to be fitting for me. And yes, I have checked the documentation and the advantages listed. For me, the advantages are simply not there - but the disadvantages are.

I would be grateful for a reply.

The documentation page explains why the classic view was removed and why it can't just stick around forever, so please do read that page in its entirety.

What loading screen are you referring to? Can you provide a screenshot? Zotero has always had to load all citations in the document before it can insert a new one — that's a requirement for correct citation updating.

Beyond that, you'd have to say more about what problems you're finding "unintuitive" about the new dialog. The new dialog works like the previous default citation has worked for 15 years — fundamentally, leaving aside the the keyboard-based methods that can dramatically speed up citing, you just click the citation bubble if you need to customize the citation. That's really all there is to it?
