How can a group member copy a reference to my personal Zotero collection?

Hi, I've created a Zotero group for my personal organization. It has 4 members plus myself.

How can a member add a reference to my personal Zotero?

If they create a reference in their personal Zotero account and drag it into the Zotero group, does it become part of my personal collection? Can I edit it?

If the members leaves the group or deletes Zotero from their computer, are the entries they added retained in my personal account?
  • I don't quite understand the question as asked. Obviously people cannot add or edit items in your personal Zotero library because they're in a Zotero group with you.

They _can_ add/edit items in the Zotero group (assuming the right permissions), including by dragging them from their libraries.

Those items then do appear in your Zotero, both Desktop and Web, under the group (is that what you mean by "my personal collection"?) and you can edit them, yes.

Items remain in a group when the person who originally created them leaves.
  • If a group member adds a new entry in their Zotero, where do they drag it so it will appear in my personal library -- or is that automatic?

Will those items from the group library that also appear in my personal Zotero library then become a permanent part of my library?

We are using a Zotero API from my personal account to feed a web page for dozens or hundreds of external viewers. I would like assistance in augmenting my personal collection for this web publication purpose. It seems that the group members could help with this?

There might be a misunderstanding there. No one but you can access your personal library, either for reading or writing. That's not possible.
If items are added to the group, they will be visible in Zotero on your desktop or online, but strictly as part of the *group* library (not your personal library).

Fortunately, the API (using your API key) can access the group library if you are a member, just use the Group ID in the URL instead of your personal library ID https://www.zotero.org/support/dev/web_api/v3/basics#user_and_group_library_urls

  • The objective is to use a Zotero collection to feed a web page for dozens or hundreds of external viewers.

It would also be very helpful to me if I had help updating this collection.

I can drag my new items into the group collection, correct?

Can I drag new items added by others to the group collection into my collection?

Any possibilty of Zotero offering an option for real collaboration on one collection? Meaning any of the individual members of the collaboration can add to the base collection. (An API could feed from this collection with the continual updates.)
  • That would just be the group -- you can use the group's feed to populate the page, it doesn't have to be your personal one.
Obviously you'd need to trust any collaborators on the group since any changes go live immediately, but it sounds like that's what you want anyway.
