Although many people, including many people in these discussion forums, use generative AI tools such as Claude and ChatGPT, I will not. For me, there are too many ethical and moral implications (related to consumption of resources, intellectual property, etc.). I don't want to start a discussion of these here; that's for another time and place. But I know that there have been people on the forums who have developed tools that integrate Zotero with these generative AI systems, and I know that the larger trend for many applications is to build this integration into the released version. Some are opt-in; some of them allow the user to opt-out; others make this very difficult, and the AI becomes intrusive and unavoidable.

I would like to know if the Zotero developers will commit to ensuring that a version of Zotero is always available without any such tools built-in, so that I can continue to use the great tool that I have used for more than a decade without crossing lines that are important to me.

Can an AI-free version be guaranteed to be available?
