Turn off reference highlighting

Is there a way to turn off the reference highlighting? It seems like a useful feature, but it sometimes highlights incorrect words, and anyway makes things a bit harder to read.

Seconded. Especially annoying when it highlights incorrectly, but mostly I would just appreciate being able to toggle the feature on and off as desired. Related to:
