Reader for .txt files
Some journals put Supplementary Information files in .txt format.
For example: https://pubs.rsc.org/en/content/articlelanding/2024/sm/d3sm01657a
It would be useful to be able to directly see the content of the files in Zotero, both from a preview in the Item Pane similar to a Zotero note, and the possibility to open them in a Reader tab.
The Reader tab could be limited to Read Only, as they are SI files not intended to be modified, with an option to convert to Zotero note if people want to import notes from .txt files.

dstillman Zotero TeamWe can think about this.

bwiernikIf the reader could display markdown with formatting, that would be super useful for reading Quarto and RMarkdown supplementary files

jorgelagosedited 2 days agoI second this, and propose even to go further: add support to view text file attachments of *any* type (i.e. extension) in the reader tab. The number of scenarios where this could be useful goes well beyond the case of "supplementary information" stuff of journal articles!
