Should german siri voices be available in local voices when downloaded on macOS? Premium voices are visible for selection but downloaded siri voices are not showing up in voice selection.
Thank you very much for this amazing feature, it really helps me focus!
Is it possible to define an area in the page (every page) where text is read? Otherwise, same as with text selection, the page header/footer is also read every time which can be annoying
A small piece of feedback on the UI, at least in the online Read Aloud tab in settings online, and perhaps in the app too, I think it would be nice if it was a little clearer that the minutes remaining is a monthly quota. Perhaps either adding some text that says "Resets on 'Date'" or "Standard Voice Minutes Remaining This Month" could be helpful, as I discovered the feature directly in the app, and when just presented with the number of minutes, was unsure if it was a daily/weekly/monthly etc quota. Of course after reading the announcement for Zotero 9 it's clear, but just as an improvement to consider
How do I add more premium minutes? I click the "Add more time" button, get redirected to the settings page for "Read aloud" but there is nothing there to actually do this. Right now I'm mostly curious about the pricing here. Thanks!
@PaulS42: You'll see an option to request more premium minutes from the settings page once you're out of minutes. Currently there's no charge for additional credit bundles.
It says "Premium Voice Minutes Remaining: 0 minutes to 0 minutes, depending on voice" in the settings page, but I don't see any Request button. Thanks!
Regarding the Ivona voice pack issue. As shown in the pictures: Pic 1. When selecting the local voice, it loads properly, and the voice feature works Pics 2 and 3. When switching to Ivona voice pack, the feature hangs
@Dunce: These voices are very, very old and seem to have been discontinued since the early 2010s. Is there a reason you prefer them over Zotero voices and/or Microsoft's own local TTS voices?
We may be able to look into supporting them, but currently I can't even find a working download for the trial version of one of the voices.
Not sure what I've done but when I am trying to search a document, but when I type the letter "r" the text to speech starts playing ("R"ead aloud??) Windows 10.0-beta.1+c52a6151d (64-bit)
You may have to edit ~/.config/speech-dispatcher/modules/piper.conf so that the language/region is hyphenated ("en-US" rather than default "en_US") for the voice to be detected.
One problem I'm noticing is that when you click the headphone icon it automatically starts reading, without allowing you to set options first. When the default is the premium server then the menu is blocked until the article downloads because of this. [misunderstood, sorry]
Thank you Zotero devs! I've wanted to be able to do something like this for so long.

@mpascale: No, as noted in my initial announcement, the delay with large PDFs is just some local processing that occurs with all voice tiers. Nothing is being "downloaded" during that time. The delay will be fixed in a future version.
Also note that you choose the tier from the first-run dialog before using the feature the first time, so it would only be set to a non-local option if you chose that originally. After that it just uses whatever option you were last using.

Thanks!

Thanks for this new feature. However, there is an issue when I use IVONA voice pack which is installed on my PC.
Also, it is possible to revert to version 8 (I see installers for version 7), as ZoTTS plugin worked on that with advanced features.
Websites like naturalreaders.com (a text-to-speech software) is able to ignore in-text citations.
Would this be possible to implement?

Microsoft's local TTS voices feel more robotic than Ivona's voice pack which sounds natural. (Ivona's trial version: https://ivona.en.download.it/).
I guess it is not a major problem. Thanks again for the new feature!
