Android app not pulling new items from sync

Hi,

I'm having an issue where a newly added item appears on zotero.org but does not show up in the Zotero Android app after syncing.

Setup:
- Zotero 8.0.5 (ARM64) on macOS
- Zotero Android (1.0.0-229)
- File sync via WebDAV (Koofr)
- Both devices logged into the same account

What I've done:
- Added an article on the desktop app — it synced successfully and is visible on zotero.org
- The file is confirmed present on the WebDAV server (Koofr)
- On Android, I've pulled down on the items list to trigger a sync multiple times
- No sync error appears at the bottom of the screen
- "Verify Server" succeeds on both devices
- Force-closed and reopened the Android app — item still doesn't appear

The item is in My Library, under All Items, sorted by date added.

Android Debug ID: D1061262470

Any help appreciated!

That wouldn't have been the debug output for the first sync after a change. Make sure you're starting debug output logging on Android before making a change elsewhere.
  • Thanks for the clarification. Here's a new Debug ID captured in the correct order (started debug on Android first, then made a change on desktop and synced, then pulled to refresh on Android): D1696815654

This is the item you see if you paste BAKX8T39 into the search bar in the desktop app?

That looks like the item synced. But I'm confused by your description:
Force-closed and reopened the Android app — item still doesn't appear

The item is in My Library, under All Items, sorted by date added.
Are you saying the item now exists or doesn't exist?
  • Update: after some investigation, the problem is broader than the original sync issue.

Background: I recently migrated from a Windows PC to a MacBook. The metadata library migrated correctly and is fully intact, but the local storage folder is essentially empty — it only contains one folder (AH9FYHZX), which corresponds to an article I added after the migration.

The WebDAV server (Koofr) has the full library: the zotero folder is 6.7GB and appears to contain all attachment files.

I performed Reset File Sync History on the Mac, then synced. The new debug log (D1206777844) shows:

    - 10 files flagged for upload
    - All 10 are missing locally, so they are skipped
    - 0 files downloaded from WebDAV

So Zotero is correctly detecting that files are out of sync, but since the files aren't present locally, it skips the upload — and nothing is downloaded from the WebDAV server either.

My PC is not currently accessible, but I can reach it in a few days.

Is there a way to force Zotero on the Mac to download all attachment files from the WebDAV server, without needing to trigger an upload from the PC first? Or is syncing from the PC the only reliable path forward?

Are we now discussing another issue? Your post was about data syncing to Android. You now seem to be talking about file syncing to the desktop app?

If so, see Files Not Syncing for what we need:
If you've performed all these steps, you've confirmed that the file is available on the server, and you still can't access the file on Device B:

If Device B is a computer, go to the Sync → Reset pane of the Zotero settings, choose Reset File Sync History, generate a Debug ID for the next sync attempt and an attempt to open the file, and post the Debug ID to the Zotero Forums. Do not use any other options in the Reset pane.
  • Apologies for the confusion — these are indeed two separate issues. Here is the Debug ID for the sync attempt after Reset File Sync History on the Mac: D1206777844

But that doesn't show you attempting to open a file.
  • Here is the Debug ID following the full sequence: Reset File Sync History, sync, and attempting to open attachments.

When I clicked on attachments, Zotero started downloading them from the WebDAV server (Koofr) without errors — so file syncing to the desktop is working.

    Debug ID: D939960667

The original Android issue (item not appearing) was also resolved. Re-importing the article fixed it.

    Thanks for the help.
