Zotero 8: cursor (still) randomly jumps to beginning of text field when commenting an annotation

Still here (or again due to regression?) in Zotero 8:

I experience this bug https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/467899#Comment_467899 in Zotero 8.

It is quite annoying, editing notes / annotations becomes extremely difficult once the edited text is longer than a few lines. I constantly have to move the cursor back to the edit position, jumping happens anywhere between 1-5 seconds after starting to write.

Here's a Debug ID: D1019881668

The problem seems to correspond to the speed of typing: the faster I type, the quicker it happens. If I type each character slowly one by one the problem is a bit less frequent. Does it have to do with synching?
  • I am also experiencing this issue, in exactly the same way.

I don't think syncing is the culprit, since I don't even have syncing enabled (but maybe some code related to syncing still runs, I don't know).

  • Any news here?
  • martynas_b Zotero Team
Can you reproduce that in the latest Zotero beta?
  • I would gladly proceed with the testing, but it wasn't clear enough what the beta is.

Here I'm asking if you meant 9.x:
    https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/509999/#Comment_509999
Meaning there might be another beta, still in 8.x.

I can upgrade to 9.x if it's safe and won't break my databases.

I guess the Zotero team was busy with the launch of version 9 to production?

Yes, that was the version they were suggesting. It was solid enough 2-3 weeks ago, and of course it is officially supported now.

Does the problem still happen with version 9?
  • On version 9.0.1, my cursor no longer jumps to the beginning of the annotation, but occasionally it will transpose one of my typed letters to the end of the annotation while still keeping my cursor in the normal spot. This naturally ends up causing a spelling error, as one of the letters in the middle of the word has been taken out and pushed to the end. Like others have said, this mainly happens when I am typing quickly.
