Update to Cite them right 12th edition (no 'et al')

Hi, How can I find out what updates there have been to a style? We have been using CTR 12th edition (no et al) for the past few years but we recently noticed a tweak in the style title (re the addition of 'author-date') when our usual bibliography didn't produce the usual result for the 'Presentation' item type. Doesn't seem to have affected the other item types.
  • We don't provide changelogs for styles -- entirely infeasible, but you can look through their history on github. Cite them right hasn't changed meaningfully in quite some time; the naming change was just that.

If you let us know specifics about the issue you're seeing, we can likely say more. It's more likely to be related to recent Zotero changes to fields and field mapping.

  • We use the presentation item type for a presentation citation – we adapted the information in the fields and add extra info to the 'Place field' to get the reference format we want. See clip

Usually the reference would look like this
Willis, C. and Hillary, J. (2025). Launch of ‘The Skills Imperative 2035’ final report, London, 25 November.
Now when we try to do the same item via same style, the info from the ‘Place’ field is missing.
    Willis, C. and Hillary, J. (2025), 25 November.
  • This sounds like https://forums.zotero.org/discussion/comment/506218#Comment_506218 but that should no longer happen with Zotero 8.0.1+ -- which version are you on?

(Generally, though, using workarounds like this is going to be fragile; we'll certainly not commit to not breaking this. Is there really no way to properly use the title field for, well, the title?)
  • Yes, the problem is that Zotero's 'Place' field maps to the place of publication. Hopefully they will fix this soon, but for now you can add the event place using event-place: London in the Extra field.

We fixed it in 8.0.1, as adamsmith says.
  • Hi, my version says 8.0.2 (64 bit)
  • The title field adds inverted commas to the entry in CTR 12th no et al

The style still uses publisher-place. It needs to be updated to use event-place. It was only working before because Zotero used to pass Place as both publisher-place and event-place as a hack.
  • cc @damnation -- I think you know the CTR styles best and have updated them in the past? I think it'll need some more item type logic in the respective macro.

(FWIW, I don't understand why you'd want to use Cite Them Right if you don't want titles in quotation marks: it very consistently either italicizes or quotes titles of items; just use any number of other styles if that's not what you want)
