How can I make a non-DOI persistent identifier work? JDCI / JudoReg

In the Netherlands there is a persistent identifier for legal references called Juridisch Doctrine Register (JudoReg) https://judoreg.nl/judoreg/ It's basically a take on the DOI that's used by law firms, legal journals and universities.

However, Zotero doesn't pick up this metadata.

For example, a document has a JCDI:AAE168:1
Then I go to Judoreg.nl, specifically:
judoreg.nl/doc/JCDI:AAE168:1/

And it will give this metadata:

Identificatie: JCDI:AAE168
Titel: De advokaat in scheidings- en alimentatiezaken: weg ermee?
Type publicatie: Tijdschriftartikel
Auteur: H.J.M. Putt van der

And also a date of publication and a summary and publisher etc basically all metadata that would be amazing to automatically implement to Zotero.

How would one make it work?
  • One of the things that makes this work for DOIs (and other identifiers supported by Zotero) is a robust lookup service (an API, in technical terms) that lets Zotero and others easily get to the metadata from the identifier. Does that exist for JCDIs? A website catalog isn't the same.
  • I really don't know.. I will call the company implementing it for more info tomorrow

There are lots of examples of permanent identifiers which appear in citations in specific fields. Commonly there are URNs and Handles beyond DOIs, which I simply put in the URL field.

It looks however as if the JCDI identifiers resolve to a data page rather than the item itself, so you'll presumably want this in addition to a URL.

For a non-resolving identifier that I need to print in a citation, I find that using the number or sometimes genre fields is the best bet. For example, there are several nineteenth- and twentieth-century permanent identifier schemes in my field for distinguishing between anonymous primary sources with the same title. They have no URLs because they predate the Internet. I typically shoehorn these in with something like number: BHL 3169 in the Extra field.

Thank you but that would defeat my goal which is to be as lazy (read: efficient!) as possible. Since all the metadata is already there i hoped it could automatically be lifted to Zotero for my thesis.
  • You might be able to create/modify a JudoReg translator for Zotero to read the JCDI identifier and place it into the number field on import, if it is normal in your field to display this information in such a way. If you don't need it to display, you could modify the translator to just stick the identifier in the Extra field in any format. For example, the WorldCat translator will often add OCLC: ocn757147657 to the Extra field, which won't display and has no impact on anything else.

No i want Zotero connector to see that a JDCI is being used on a page and then to automatically lift the authors name, title and journal etc from this JDCI to make a reference item
