Incorrect Chicago citation using Zotero Word Plugin

I am using the Zotero plugin for Word and the Chicago Manual of Style, 18th edition (notes and bibliography). When I cite a work with multiple volumes, the citation in Word is incorrect, even though it is correct in Zotero.

The incorrect citation using the Zotero Word plugin looks like this:
-Bryan Edwards, The History Civil and Commercial, of the British Colonies in the West Indies: In Two Volumes (Luke White, 1793), 2:276.

The correct citation should look like this:
-Bryan Edwards, The History Civil and Commercial, of the British Colonies in the West Indies: In Two Volumes, vol. 2 (Luke White, 1793), 276.

Any help would be greatly appreciated!
  • Assuming that you have it entered like this, the style gives me correct results both in Zotero and in Word:

The style will not combine the volume and page number if it detects that the latter is non-numeric. I would check first that that the number is entered as a page locator rather than a suffix, and that there are no stray characters. If everything looks right, perhaps try switching to another style in Word and then back to Chicago?
  • Thank you for the quick response!

All my information in Zotero matches yours, but I keep getting a weird combined volume and page number at the end in Word. Switching to a new style in Word did not fix the error and there aren't any stray characters. When I switched from "Page" to "Part" in the Word Plugin it provided me with the correct citation, so I think it is only happening when I enter a page number in the "Page" section.

Apologies, I was misreading your entire post: combining the volume and page number as 2:276 is correct Chicago style. See sections 14.18–20 of the Manual.
