Edition notation in CMS18
Is it correct to have the Edition field twice in CMS18 author-date citations?
For example:
Hofstadter, Richard. (1963) 2012. “The Paranoid Style in American Politics.” In The Paranoid Style in American Politics, and Other Essays, **Kindle**, by Richard Hofstadter. **Kindle**. Vintage.

To get 'Kindle' in the right place, add
medium: Kindleto the Extra field. This shows how you can enter the example shown in CMOS 14.58 and the quick guide:https://www.zotero.org/groups/2205533/items/DAG62U85
I had Kindle in the Edition field since it is a Kindle edition. Adding medium: Kindle to the Extra field gives:
Hofstadter, Richard. (1963) 2012. “The Paranoid Style in American Politics.” In The Paranoid Style in American Politics, and Other Essays, by Richard Hofstadter. Vintage. Kindle.
However,I don't think this solves the fundamental problem with doubling of the Edition field. For instance, if the book were the 2nd edition and I put "2nd" in the Edition field:
Hofstadter, Richard. (1963) 2012. “The Paranoid Style in American Politics.” In The Paranoid Style in American Politics, and Other Essays, 2nd ed., by Richard Hofstadter. 2nd ed. Vintage.
I don't see any item using the Edition field in the test library (https://www.zotero.org/groups/2205533/test_items_library), though because it's impossible to sort by that field it's difficult to be certain I haven't missed something.
The duplicate edition you're seeing occurs when citing a book chapter that includes an original date. I've fixed this in my current Chicago update. While waiting for it to be reviewed, you can test the updated author–date style by adding this version to Zotero:
