Can I highlight some text in pdf's?

Zotero's highlighting and annotation features do not work in PDFs.

You can highlight text on pdf documents you've saved in pdf programs such as Adobe Acrobat and PDF-XChange

FYI, PDF X-change viewer has a free version, with very usable and quite extensive annotation capabilities, and no watermark added. Its one limitation with Zotero is that comments are not currently indexed, so are not searchable.

P.S. I'm not affiliated with PDF X-change, I'm just a very satisfied user.
