ZOTERO PLUG NOT THERE TRIED TROUBLE SHOOTING THEN UNINSTALLING NOW IT WON'T INSTALL
There is no plug in on my Safari browser despite the website (Zotero) stating it's automatic with the updated version. Tried every which way, but nothing worked. I uninstalled, now the whole Zotero application WON'T install. I imagine I am only one of the many PhD researchers and other users pulling their hair out at the moment. The fact that I have paid for memory and there is no trouble shooting number means I am about a breath away from cancelling and using something else.
I’m not sure what you mean when you say the application won’t install. You’ll need to say more.
As for why you couldn’t reinstall the app, I’d guess that you just hadn’t fully closed Zotero. That’s just a basic Mac thing.
You say 'there was no bug that was fixed' and then say there's a 'macOS bug'. I can appreciate the difference you're trying to say, but still, it's a bit of a contradiction.
Not only had I fully closed Zotero, I completely eliminated it. Removed it. And reinstalled it, so no, it wasn't that I hadn't 'fully closed' it.
And blaming Mac when Zotero has just rereleased a new version with a ton of updates is ignorant at best, as if there are no issues with Zotero's changes at all. Clearly (look at the forum and be realistic) that's not the case. And since prior to that Zotero was working fine, I don't think it's purely a MAC thing, unless it's that MAC needed to update things in order to coincide with the CHANGES from ZOTERO.
Thirdly, your customers service skills are patronising.
Next item -now when I try to add a citation - I click on Zotero in the WORD doc, the little window comes up for me and I type in the book I am looking for or paper and it just spins. And yes, I know I have the things I am looking for saved in Zotero.
You said, "The bug must have been fixed. Yay." I'm telling you that's not the case — there was no bug in macOS or Zotero that was fixed here. There is a years-old macOS bug, explained on the page I linked to, that can cause this issue with the extension after Zotero app updates. There is no contradiction there. You are likely to encounter this after future app updates, so it's important that you understand the actual cause and the (trivial) fix.
Second, you said the app would not install. Zotero is distributed as a disk image, the standard way Mac apps have been distributed for decades. All you do is drag it into the Applications folder. You said the app wouldn't install, without providing any other details, so I suggested one possible cause. If that wasn't the issue, OK — it sounds like you got it installed, so it doesn't matter. But this has nothing to do with Zotero — we literally do not have an installer. Zotero is "installed" by a drag operation controlled entirely by macOS. This has nothing to do with the Safari issue, the new Zotero version, and or any other issues people might have, so bringing those up as some sort of gotcha is a misunderstanding. (Zotero is used by millions of people. Obviously some people encounter problems, particularly after major upgrades. But that's not what this was.)
Obviously I could have ignored your comment, but when people are confused by something, we think the respectful thing to do is to try to help them better understand the situation so they don't continue to have trouble in the future. Please don't respond to that by arguing with us and making things contentious. If you don't understand something, ask a clarifying question, but trust that we know how Zotero works and that our sole goal here is to help you.
For the Word issue, can you provide a Report ID after it occurs? Does it happen if you select the library tab (not a PDF tab) and restart Zotero? There was a previous bug where the unending spinner could happen if a certain PDF tab was open, but that should have been fixed a while back.
