Custom Style Not Working aafter CMOS18 Update

I created my own citation style for CMOS17 (full note) that I have been successfully using for the last year. I upload the .csl file manually from my laptop.

After the new CMOS18 update, I noticed that my custom file no longer works, even though in my Microsoft Word Zotero plug-in settings I am selecting the same CMOS17 full note style that I always have.

Does anyone know why this might be the case? I use extra fields like "original-title", "original-publisher", etc., to be more precise with citing my translated texts and this is now coming out as "originally published as X" in my citations when it used to correctly use square brackets.

    Perhaps to make things clearer, I can use an example.

    In my updated CMOS 17, citations in other languages would appear as follows, when I used the 'original-title' field in 'extra':

    Footnote: Aimé Césaire, Les armes miraculeuses [The Miraculous Weapons] (Paris: Éditions Gallimard, 1946).
    Bibliography: Césaire, Aimé. Les armes miraculeuses [The Miraculous Weapons]. Paris: Éditions Gallimard, 1946.

    Now, it has changed to appear as follows:
    Footnote: Aimé Césaire, Les armes miraculeuses (Paris: Éditions Gallimard, 1946), originally published as The Miraculous Weapons.
    Bibliography: Césaire, Aimé. Les armes miraculeuses. Paris: Éditions Gallimard, 1946. Originally published as The Miraculous Weapons.

    It has italicized the transliteration when it should be unitalicized and it has replaced the square brackets with "originally published as."

    Transliterated articles (rather than books) are even more messed up than the above, but I thought this might explain the issue.

    From what I understand from other recent threads, the old "CMOS 17 (full note)" is now "CMOS 17 (notes and bibliography)". I went and downloaded that to my Zotero to see if I could edit manually, but it seems like this file has maintained the above formatting, even before I try to edit it.

    Simply put, how do I do the citations outlined in the CMOS 18 section 13.101: Translated titles of cited works?

    I tried to figure out a way to render translated titles, as I sometimes need them myself, but there’s simply no variable for this. I expect there will be one in the next version of CSL.

    If you can get away with a different style, the medium field will usually work in APA, but it’s not much good in Chicago.

    None of this should affect a style that you personally created. Try checking that it has a unique title and ID from the standard Chicago styles:

    If the style has the same name as one of the standard Chicago styles, Zotero will try to update it to the latest version.

    Thank you for explaining. I will say it is disappointing because it applies to all language outside of English and we shouldn't just quote the translated title (due to implicit translator choice) and usually cannot just quote the original language (because most readers might not understand it).

    For readers' reference, to fix the issue with the square brackets per CMOS 18 13.101, you can use the script made for CMOS17 by @damnation and following @dunning 's instructions above.
