Film Referencing - Genre error

edited yesterday at 3:12pm
I've seen a couple of old posts before that tangentially point to this but figured a direct one was still warranted since this issue is ongoing. The item type "film" has a category for genre (which it automatically picks up in the extension from sites like IMDb). I suppose this might be a field in some citation styles, but it certainly isn't in any of the types I am familiar with. The resulting citation in Chicago and APA, for instance, are incorrect with the addition of genre - I always try to manually delete this field when I get a film from IMDb. This isn't a terrible inconvenience of course, but I was wondering if this overall problem can be fixed - I see this issue of genre popping up in my students' papers all the time.
  • I’ve submitted a fix for the IMDB translator:

    https://github.com/zotero/translators/pull/3461
  • Thank you! Do I understand correctly by your post that something else is meant with "genre" by Zotero than what is typically understood when it comes to film? What would a correct entry be for that?
  • According to the CSL specification, the genre field provides the ‘Type, class, or subtype of the item (e.g. “Doctoral dissertation” for a PhD thesis; “NIH Publication” for an NIH technical report)’.

For films, the field might be useful for something like ‘National Film Board of Canada documentary’.
  • Right, but doesn't that mean "Genre" is mapped incorrectly for films? A movie genre is a specific thing and it doesn't match up (counterintuitively, admittedly) with CSL genre. I'm fine with removing the variable from the style, but medium term wouldn't removing the mapping be better (or, I guess, renaming the field).
  • The genre variable is especially useful for providing a description of an untitled work. This is essential for unpublished films, such as in archives (e.g. ‘Footage of trolleybuses at Smithfield, London’). From that perspective it would be ideal to rename the Genre field on films to Type or similar.
  • But would you not out stuff like "TV series", "Documentary" or "Short film" there?
  • Changing the label to Type would be good
