Undo/Redo in notes

This discussion was created from comments split from: Undo/Redo does not work for annotation deletion.
  • How I agree how useful it would be to have an undo button in notes, (not PDF) having just deleted accidentally my night's work
  • If you're just talking about text in a note, Ctrl/Cmd-Z already works for that, if you haven't switched away from the note.

If that's no longer an option, you may be able to restore from one of your automatic backups.
  • I find that Cmd-Z does not work in the note editor (the side panel) either from the main library or from the pdf reader. Is this a reversion, or have I messed up my settings somehow?
  • cmd-Z not working for me either using zotero 7.0.6 on mac (installed using brew)
  • @mattany

Do you mean that when you type something and press Cmd-Z, it doesn’t undo the text?
Please test with all third-party plugins disabled.
  • Agreed. Lost hours of work by mistake and no way to recover. Outrageous and ridiculous. Please help.
  • @armst874: As we say above, Ctrl/Cmd-Z (and Edit → Undo) should work as long as you haven't switched away from the note. No one responded to Martynas above, but we have no reason to think that doesn't work in general. (It does for me.)

If you have switched away, your only option would be to try to recover from one of the automatic backups, unless you have your own backup of the data directory.
  • Thanks. I had switched away from the note and the backups didn't work. Thanks anyway.
  • More specifically for your future reference and helping other people, I don't think I had switched away from the note. I just accidentally clicked the "insert citation" button in my note and doing that got rid of my text and I was never able to get it back. I hope this doesn't happen to others in the future. Thank you
  • @armst874 Just to clarify—was the text selected when you clicked the button? Otherwise, it shouldn't replace any existing text.
  • Yes, the text was selected when I clicked the button. I was trying to change the paragraph formatting and it looked kind of like that icon on Microsoft Word so that's why I pressed it
