Zotero won't launch after update Windows 10

Tried reinstalling. Tried uninstalling, then reinstalling. It won't launch at all from the .exe, from the shortcut, and while 'running as admin' will bring up the Do you want to allow this program etc. window, it still won't launch even from there.
I'm stuck! I don't know which is the data folder so I can't check permissions, and I can't see there's any indie security software running. It isn't mentioned even in Windows firewall. I tried adding it but that didn't help either so I deleted it. I reckon if there were security software blocking it then it would be visible in Task Manager but can't see anything. Advice would be welcome!
  • We've had a few reports of this for Zotero 7.0.16 (released a couple days ago), mostly on Windows 10.

Is this an institutional computer? Is Windows 10 up to date?

Just to confirm, if you uninstall Zotero, restart your computer, and then reinstall from the download page, it still doesn't start?

If you're able to follow these steps to generate a Procmon trace for trying to start the app, that would be very helpful:

    https://techcommunity.microsoft.com/blog/iis-support-blog/basic-steps-for-making-a-process-monitor-procmon-capture/348401

You could then email the zipped .pml file to support@zotero.org with a link to this thread.

But regardless, reinstalling Zotero 7.0.15 and re-updating via Help → Check for Updates has worked for others.

Nope, yup, nope tho to be precise I reinstalled using the downloaded version of 16 I already had.
I got it going again using your advice (thanks, phew, great bit of kit I use allatime) and even tho I installed 15 direct over 16 and when I checked help/update it said there were none to be had, the version (about) says it's 16. This suggests to me there's a lilbit of 16's code in there somewhere which needs addressing. Thanks for your help!
