Citing individual works within a Complete Works anthology
Hi everyone,
I am using Plato's Complete Works (Eds. John M. Cooper, and D.S. Hutchinson) for my master's thesis. I would like to reference some of Plato's works (ex: Symposium), but not all. At first I just wanted to reference the Complete Works, but I figured it'd be more relevant to reference each work individually in the footnotes, if that makes sense.
Is there any way to include the works individually in Zotero, or to reference them through the Complete Works, so that they are referenced as individual works and not as "chapters" ?
Here's an example of how I found them referenced in another paper. I'm not a pro at citing works. I'm using Chicago for my current paper.
Plato. Complete Works. Eds. John M. Cooper, and D. S. Hutchinson. Indianapolis and
Cambridge: Hackett, 1997.
———. Cratylus. Trans. C. D. C. Reeve. Plato, Complete Works 101-56
———. Epinomis. Trans. Richard D. McKirahan, Jr. Plato, Complete Works 1617-33.
———. Phaedrus. Trans. Alexander Nehamas, and Paul Woodruff. Plato, Complete Works
506-56.
———. Symposium. Trans. Alexander Nehamas, and Paul Woodruff. Plato, Complete Works
457-505.
Hope everything makes sense !
Thanks for you help !

type: book
Or, since this is an ancient text, you can use the dedicated category for this:
type: classic
Or you can enter these as books, then add the title of the parent volume in the extras field:
container-title: Plato, Complete Works
Both will render the title in italics rather than in quotes.
Here is an example from CMOS 14.11, on citing a book-length work within a book: This item in Zotero:

The 17th edition styles do not arrange the elements in the correct order, but this will be fixed in the 18th edition, which should be available within the next few weeks.
