Zotero crashes when trying to drag and drop files under Wayland

  • Same here, on Ubuntu 24.04 and Zotero 7.0.15,.
Zotero crashes when trying to drag and drop files in Zotero from a window below (doing alt+tab). This doesn't seem to happen when dragging from a window on the side of Zotero. Similar behaviour on standard Firefox also.
Any news or workaround for this?

You can try the Zotero 7.1 beta, but that's about all we can suggest.

To be clear, are you saying you get the same crash in Firefox? If so, this won't be fixed in Zotero until it's fixed in Firefox.
  • I have the same issue on my setup, as of today.

    System
    - Zotero 10.0.2 (64-bit), tarball install, build 20260909184950 (Firefox 140.15.0 ESR base)
    - Ubuntu 24.04.5 LTS, kernel 6.8.0
    - GNOME Shell 46.0, Wayland session (mutter 46.2)
    - Native Wayland (MOZ_ENABLE_WAYLAND=1, set by the standard launcher script)
    - AMD Radeon (Lucienne, integrated), display scale 1, no fractional scaling
    - Nautilus 46.4

    Steps
Drag a file from Nautilus into Zotero, with the Nautilus window rendered in front.

    Log output
Crash Annotation GraphicsCriticalError: |[0][GFX1-]: (ubuntu:gnome) Wayland protocol error: unknown object (4278190080), message error(ous)
    /opt/zotero/zotero: line 20: 3076 Segmentation fault (core dumped) "$CALLDIR/zotero-bin" -app "$CALLDIR/app/application.ini" "$@"

    Upstream
This looks like Mozilla bug 1955221 (Firefox crashes on drag-and-drop from Nautilus under GNOME Wayland, with the same unknown object ... error(ous) message). That bug depends on bug 2025329, which rewrote Firefox's Wayland drag-and-drop code. It was fixed in Firefox 153 but not backported to ESR 140. Could that fix be backported into Zotero's Firefox build?
