Access to Zotero key

Hey

I am building a database with information from multiple items and would like to link the information captured with the corresponding item in Zotero, i.e. the source. Is there a way to know this key in the desktop app without downloading the CSV file?

(sorry if this is a repeated topic, I couldn't find anything in the forums)

Thanks for your support
Marina
  • I think Zutilo (which is now Zotero 7 compatible) lets you copy a version of that (the Zotero item URI). Alternatively https://zoteromusings.wordpress.com/2013/04/23/zotero-item-uris-from-client/ still works.
  • Thanks @adamsmith. I'll digest your suggestions and come back if needed.
  • it works with Zotilo; thank you, @adamsmith!
  • I must say Zotilo will make my life considerably easier.
    Thanks!
  • Hi

Zotero names Zotero ID to the key code generated for an item.
I am using this Zotero ID to link two databases.

    1) Are there different IDs for an item and the PDF (or file attached)?
    2) I changed the collection from MY library to a Group library to share it with another person. Are new IDs generated in a group library, different from My library collection?

    Thank you

    1) yes
    2) no yes (see below)

Unless I'm misunderstanding, (2) is "yes" also. Items in different libraries are separate and have separate item keys. (Item "ids" are internal, numeric, local-only identifiers — that's not the right term here.)
  • Oops, sorry, I read collection and then missed the group library part.

Yeah, sorry. You call it "key" when I export a .CSV file, but Zutilo calls it Zotero ID. It is the alphanumeric code generated to identify the items in the desktop app and that identify the folders in the data directory.

When replying YES to 2), I can understand why I cannot find any of the ~60 Zotero keys of the captured items (to a database) after "migrating" the collection from My Library to a group library....................
