Zotero EZProxy issue

Hi,

There seems to be an issue with my institution's EZ Proxy settings that is preventing downloading attachments from certain databases including HeinOnline while authenticated via EZ Proxy.

This debug id: D922741538 should show two attempts to add the same content from Hein to Zotero once via a proxied link and once when on campus. Attachments fail to save when added via the proxied link but save properly when accessed on campus.

Thanks,
Kyle
  • We're working on a fix for this. We'll let you know when it is available.
  • Thanks, @adomasven!

Is there any ETA on when this might be fixed?
  • @adomasven @dstillman Any updates on this bug?

My institution is in the process of canceling our RefWorks subscription and encouraging all of our users to migrate to Zotero instead.

As part of the transition, I'm supposed to be training law students and law school faculty/staff on how to use Zotero, but I would like to hold off on those trainings until I know Zotero works properly with Hein, as HeinOnline is likely to be one of the main sources these folks would use Zotero for.

(Most of the other major databases US legal scholars and students use (Westlaw, Lexis, BloombergLaw) are already incompatible with Zotero for other reasons, so I'd really like to schedule these trainings after Zotero is working properly with HeinOnline again.)
  • We're still working on a fix, although it had to be delayed due to other urgent issues cropping up with the Zotero 7 release. We hope to have it available in the following weeks, but can't provide precise timelines.
  • I'm still having this bug when using HeinOnline via EZProxy; is a fix still in the works?
  • @adomasven do you know whether a fix for this bug is still in the works? Thanks!
  • Yes, it's still in the works. Sorry for the optimistic timeline. We nearly have the fix ready, but I'll avoid giving timelines in case it gets held up again.
  • @adomasven has there been an attempt to roll out a fix for this issue? It looks like PDF attachment downloads are still failing for me in HeinOnline, but they now seem to fail in a different way than before.

Now it doesn't even get to the stage of loading the little PDF icon next to the word Attachment in the saving dialogue instead showing the screenshot icon, and it seems to take much longer to fail now (the little popup that informs me the article is being saved to Zotero stays visible much longer with the "Attachment" part of the popup grayed out).

Here's an updated debug ID: D1693760565

    Thanks!
  • @adomasven further testing suggests that this issue may have been fixed in Firefox and Chrome but not Safari. Here's a debug ID trying to save a Hein article via a proxied link in Safari but failing to download the attachment: D1659425707

Here's a debug ID from Firefox successfully saving the same article and downloading the PDF attachment: D1541534601

    The article URL is https://heinonline-org.seattleu.idm.oclc.org/HOL/Page?collection=top30&handle=hein.journals/mnlr105&id=555&men_tab=srchresults
  • Saving from Safari has always been less reliable, especially for gated resources due to limitations of Safari, so it's unlikely it worked correctly before too. The change for the connectors is still pending.
