Zotero sync is slow with high disk usage, causing freezes

Dear Zotero Team,

I previously reported an issue where Zotero freezes on the folder interface. I suspected it might be caused by upgrading to Zotero 7.0.13. Later, I noticed that whenever I start Zotero for the first time, it begins syncing the database but takes extremely long (usually ~1 hour). Observing via Task Manager, the disk usage spikes to 1,764 MB/s during this period, making the application completely unresponsive. Once the sync icon stops, everything works fine.

I submitted several error reports during these incidents (including ID: 10011573023). Since I truly love Zotero and cannot tolerate using other software, could you please investigate what’s causing this?

  • Can you provide a Debug ID for Zotero startup through several minutes of syncing, using the "Restart with Logging Enabled…" option?

But also, if you disable auto-sync and restart Zotero, are you saying there's no performance problem, or is it just slow in a different way? Because what you reported the other day suggests a problem at startup unrelated to syncing that we're currently investigating. It would happen on the next startup after emptying the trash or when old feed items were cleaned up automatically.

That's not a Debug ID. See what I asked for above.

You should also disable all plugins while debugging this. We'd want to see a Debug ID with all plugins disabled.
