Zotero Connector is Unresponsive

Hi,

I'm experiencing issues with the Zotero Connector in Chrome. The connector button is unresponsive when I click it, and I can't access the options under the "General" or "Advanced" tabs.

Here's what I've tried so far:

Checked Cookie Settings: Confirmed that cookies are enabled in Chrome under Settings > Privacy and security > Cookies and other site data.

Disabled Other Extensions: Turned off all other browser extensions to rule out conflicts, but the issue persists.

Reinstalled the Zotero Connector: Removed the connector, restarted Chrome, and reinstalled it from the Chrome Web Store, but no improvement.

I recently cleared my browser cookies; could this be related? Any suggestions on how to fix this would be greatly appreciated!
  • Unless this happens with a new Chrome profile, this is likely caused by some corruption in your current one. Clearing other browser data might help. There is a way to clear data of a specific extension but it is complicated.
  • Hi Sven, thank you for your answer. I'm trying the steps in the link you provided, but I am unable to click 'Inspect Pop-up'. Isn't that strange, since the Connector works with Pop-ups? I cannot find the extension data under 'Local Storage' either.
  • Could you go into Zotero Connector preferences, open developer tools (Ctrl-Shift-i or Cmd-Option-i on a Mac) switch to the Console tab and see if there are any errors? Could you copy them and post them here?
  • Hi Sven, thank you again for thinking along. Ctrl-Shift-i doesn't work for me, perhaps because I'm on my work computer and don't have all the administrator rights? I did find an error when looking at the Connector in my extensions. It says: Service worker (re)started at 2025-02-20 08:48:40 at chrome-extension://ekhagklcjbdpajgpjgmbionohlpdbjgc/zotero.js:319

It also says: Uncaught (in promise) Error: Only a single `reason` is currently supported.

  • What is the version of Chrome that you are running? Can you update to the latest version and see if the issue still occurs?

I have version 131.0.6778.265. Unfortunately, I cannot update it as it is controlled by my work. I don't think the problem is related to my Google account either, because the Zotero Connector does work in Chrome on my personal computer (which is also running the latest version of Chrome). I have now installed Firefox as well, and the Zotero Connector works fine there.
