Keyboard shortcut for highlighting text?

As I'm reading it would be nice to be able to highlight text and then quickly press something like CMD+H to highlight it with yellow, for example

Does this exist?

If not, can I help to add it?
  • You're aware that you can just click the highlight tool in the toolbar to lock it on, and then any text you select will be automatically highlighted?
  • ah, I was not. this is pretty nice!

I sometimes highlight with my mouse as I'm reading though, so having that keyboard shortcut still seems better. but it's not a burning need.

I see that when I select color and type letters the text is in selected color.

However for already written text, I can't lock the tool on. Windows10+6.0.19.

    To highlight texts...
    - Select the text
    - Click the tool bar
    - Select color

Then the tool bar turns to default.

In this situation is there any way to lock it on?
  • @compunk: This is about the PDF reader, not the note editor.
  • I would really like this - a keyboard shortcut which will highlight the selected text in the last chosen colour. I find it a bit cumbersome to have to do additional mousework, having trained my muscle memory in Previews where cmd+shift+h does the job after selecting.

Just to reiterate, you don't have to do additional mousework — you can just click the highlight or underline tool in the toolbar, and then it will create an annotation with every text selection.

We have an open issue to let you choose a color from the text-selection popup with just a number key when not in locked mode. For now, you can use Tab and arrow keys if you want.
  • Unfortunately I often interchange between copying a text passage (for inclusion in another note program) and highlighting a passage, thus being in "hightlighter mode" is impractical because I then have to constantly deselect highlight and and vice versa.
  • In that case, you can use Option-1 to toggle the highlighter on and off before selecting the text.

Also, we have new keyboard shortcuts for accessibility purposes that do exactly what you described. Try to select text and press Ctrl-Option/Alt-1
  • @martynas_b This is very nice, just what I was looking for, thanks!

I can't find that shortcut documented in the keyboard shortcuts section of the documentation, is it somewhere else?
