In-Text Citations Inserting as Bold into Dissertation

I have tried everything that people have recommended on the forum and I cannot get it to stop doing it. Every time I add a citation into the text, it inserts it as bold....so I get to change it everytime....super time consuming and disruptive. Any idea on how to fix? I have bolded some references as they are along with a title of something...is that's what is throwing it off?

Would really appreciate someone walking me through how to get this fixed....many pages to go...

    What word processor? This is likely due to your customizing one of the paragraph styles in your word processor. Click within the citation and check what style it is and see what formatting it's been assigned.
