Hide/Delete Unused Item Types

Virtually all of my citations are books with occasional journal articles, sometimes maps or web pages. Is there a way to hide or remove item types that are never used?

As an offshoot of this, is there a way to preferentially use one particular item type as the default? (e.g., book rather than journal article)

    +1. Same here. In my case, the main item types include journal article, newspaper articles, and 'web'. By the way, the browser plugin gets it often wrong and I don't bother to change the type any more.

    That's not a general problem, could you give specific examples (preferably in another thread)?

    A simple way to achieve the same result is to have an empty reference of your favorite type in your library and duplicate it when needed.
    But in general, the recommended workflow is to enter new references using the web browser connector instead of manually.
