I had this same issue and even contacted elsevier... they told me that they couldn't help me since they don't support programs like Zotero automatically downloading files... Only until recently did sciencedirect articles started to download correctly without error... I'm using Mozilla, if that matters any but I believe the newest Zotero update fixed the issue.
Zotero is incorrectly filling fields when using Brave (Chromium 131.0.0.0, WebKit 537.36) and Yandex (WebKit 537.36) browsers. During saving, a message pops up in browsers - "Error in saving with ScienceDirect. Trying to save with Embedded Metadata". And it is not filling Authors, Publisher, and several others. The Captcha window does not pop up, and pdf's are not saved. When using Edge 131.0.0 (WebKit 537.36), everything works - all fields are filled and the Captcha window pops up.
Ref 1968132121 The failed to download pdf error is happening to me regularly - partially because I need a large no of references via Science Direct and can't access them via Zotero whether or not there is a CAPTCHA, and from both Edge and Chrome This is a frequent time consuming problem...and has been for a long time. I am using Zotero7 - the latest update still has issues with this
After Update 7, I also encountered the same problem several times, I entered from the school library, but still couldn't grab the pdf.So what's the solution?
