Zotero plugin issues, not able to save

edited February 5, 2024
Hello !
The problem I am facing is when I try to save a PDF into the Zotero via the Zotero plugin in Chrome, it does not get saved to the path I had set to but instead gets saved locally on my desktop with an error message. I have been facing this issue for more than a month now. Kindly help me to resolve it.
  • What do you mean by "it does not get saved to the path I had set"? What exact error message?

I meant that I have set up some path to the OneDrive folder where it should directly save the file like many other files which I had done earlier. But, it has not been doing the same in the past few weeks. It downloads and saves to the local folder of the desktop. The error is : "An error occurred while saving this item. Try again, and if the issue persists see Getting Help for more information."

Very recently, now I am facing issue that none of the file is getting saved to the specified path on clicking on the Zotero connector for eg it is not working in arxiv, google scholar, etc. I have recently sent the Debug ID. Tried all the trouble shooting method, but non seems to be working. Even reset the Translators. Could anyone pls provide some solutions? Thanks.
  • You have to post the Debug ID here if you want us to look at it.

But to be clear, Zotero has no functionality to automatically save linked files — only plugins do that. So if your question is about that, you'd have to ask the plugin developer for help.

If you're having a problem saving stored files, provide a Debug ID from Zotero for reloading the page and trying to save.

Yes I have the issue with the Zotero plugin. It has been there for a long time.

This is the Debug ID which I have just submitted : D1134482015

The major problem which I am facing is I am not able to directly save the files such as arxiv papers, journal articles from google scholar etc. This problem has been there for a very long time.
  • With the ZotFile plugin, you mean? Again, we can't help with that.
    (3)(+0000000): Using data directory /home/[…]/OneDrive/zotero-library-2
In any case, you also have your data directory in a cloud storage folder, where it absolutely shouldn't be:

I have done that just by now. Earlier it was in my desktop offline directory. But the same problem I was facing even then.

    This is the error:
An error occurred saving with arXiv.org. Attempting to save using Save as Webpage instead.
An error occurred while saving this item. Try again, and if the issue persists see Getting Help for more information.
after this, it still saves but to my data directory.

Again, we can't help you with a plugin. Zotero always saves files to the data directory itself. See Stored Files and Linked Files.

If you can reproduce a problem saving data with your data directory in the default location and with all plugins disabled, we can help if you provide a Debug ID for that.
