Document Type 'Datasheet'

Hi,
i love zotero to manage datasheets of electronic components at work.
Until now, I declared them as books.
More and more, I run into trouble because I would like to sort and use document types for it.

Is it possible to customize the document type list?
I would like to add 'datasheet' and 'application note' for engineering requirements.

Is there any possibility?

    no. I doubt this will be possible in the future - one of the central ideas of Zotero is the possibility to share date - if everyone creates custom types and fields that's not going to work.
    What exactly are the problems you are running into? Maybe the can be solved within the existing framework, maybe a specific request for a new item type can come out of this.

    thanks for your answer.
    In the past, I used to declare datasheets of electronic components, application notes of electronic component suppliers and real books as books.
    Now, that frequently I want to sort my library using the criterion 'item type', I get not only books but also datasheets and application notes.
    For engineering usage of zotero, it would be very helpful to be able to differentiate these types that don't fit in any existing item type.

    if this is just about sorting your library, I'd recommend you use tags instead of different item types.
    Two reasons
    1. Tags are more powerful for searches, as they can be combined etc.
    2. Zotero/csl developers are very unlikely to include new item types if they are not going to be cited in different ways, for the reasons stated above.

    If you really want to stick with an item type solution you still have "document" and "computer program" to work with.

    You can multi-tag items by selecting them and dragging them onto a tag in the tag window on the left (under your collections - may be hidden).

    I thought about what you wrote and I actually don't know how to cite out of a datasheet. For the first, I just adapted your suggestion and treat it as document and for sorting and searching I use tags. Works for now.
