Zotero disconnected from computer, Chrome, and Word: helpful information regarding Betterbibtex

This week I noticed that randomly (as far as I could tell) my Zotero stopped communicating with the rest of my computer. I could no longer add a paper manually via the DOI using the "Add Item(s) by Identifier" tool in the Zotero desktop application, even though I've been doing it for years. Similarly, when I tried to add to add an article from Google Scholar I got the error: "The Zotero Connector was unable to communicate with the Zotero desktop application", even though my application was up and running (and has always worked up until this point). Further, when I went through the trouble shooting page in that error message and ran http://127.0.0.1:23119/connector/ping, I got the message "Zotero is running." Word had also stopped communicating with Zotero.

I tried:
-Restarting Zotero (many times)
-Restarting my computer (many times)
-Updating Chrome
-Updating the Zotero plugin for Chrome
-I was using on a Macbook Pro (Sonoma 14.4.1) with Chrome Version 124.0.6367.203. I use no other citation managers

I couldn't figure out what was wrong, but after disabling and reenabling the betterbibtex Add-on everything went immediately back to normal. Posting this here in case it helps anyone else in the future.
