enumerating references for the same article but in different files

A journal requires the main text and the supplementary material (SM) to be submitted into two files. Some of the references in the SM are not referenced in the main text, so they have to be cited in the SM, continuing the numeration of the main text. For example, if the references in the main text go up to "10", then the first reference in the SM should start at "11".

How can I enforce the references to start at a certain number (different from one)?

Of course, I can think of several tricks to do it, but is there a way to implement this in Zotero?

Thank you in advance
  • The only way to do this in Zotero is to author the supplement in the same file, then make a copy, unlink citations, and split the files up (because citations are unlinked at that point, Zotero won't update the references)
  • Thank you very much for your answer.

I wonder if this functionality should be added to future versions of Zotero.
