Why does Zotero call Safari specifically instead of the chosen browser? [Not actually a problem.]

edited October 22, 2023
My Zotero (7.0.0-beta.46+c27bac2ad, MacOS) seems to always call Safari specifically instead of the browser I've selected as my default in settings (MS Edge, in this case.)

This happens when I select discussions from the Zotero help menu as well as when I select a URL in a reference item.

Is there a way I can configure Zotero to use my selected default browser instead of Safari?

Thanks,

  • Zotero opens links in your system default browser — there's never been anywhere to configure that.

What do you mean by "my default in settings"?
  • What I meant was what I chose as "default browser" in the MacOS program "System Settings"

Apologies, though. I just now discovered that my default browser in MacOS System Settings is indeed Safari. I would have never intentionally chosen that, so I'll bet one of my recent OS updates reset it to Safari.

It is a non-problem. Thanks for the attention and time, nevertheless.

I'm hijacking this topic because I would like to be able to change the default browser that Zotero uses when I click on something that opens the browser.

For almost all my work, I prefer to use Safari, so that's what I have for the System Browser. Unfortunately, the Safari extension doesn't always Download PDFs.

I would like to set a browser to use from Zotero, so when I click on "View online" or "Library Lookup," it will open in, say, Chrome rather than Safari
