Global library file path support

Currently, I already have a folder which managed all downloaded books, if I want to use zotero to read them, I have to import them into Zotero with their copies, which will double the usage of the disk space, and I really want to avoid this.
If possible, I hope I can set a global library path, then when I try to add books, it will check the path of the book, if it already in the library, no copy at all, and when user try to open the book, zotero will read it from the library (via webdav or local disk).
  • Since you have an existing folder of PDF books that you wish to maintain, you can create linked attachments in Zotero to those files in their folder. Linked files do have some limitations described at the link below, but they would suit your computer-based use case as described.

To add such files to Zotero, you can drag and drop PDFs onto Zotero while holding down Ctrl+Shift (Windows/Linux) or Cmd+Option (Mac) so that they are linked rather than copied.

Checking to see if you already have an item - as you are trying to add it to Zotero - currently requires a plugin, eg Zoplicate.
