“There was an error changing your username”

edited March 27, 2024
I want to change my username, but when I try, a prompt pops up saying 'There was an error changing your username.' It's been several months since I last changed my username. Why can't I change it?"

Fine, you have time to delete my post due to duplication, but you don't even spare a glance at the post itself? By the way, the link mentioned in the email is available.

  • Please stop creating duplicate posts for the same issue.

From the forum guidelines you were linked to:
If you don't receive a response right away, give it time. If you're having a serious issue and think your post may have slipped through the cracks, post a polite follow-up to the same thread asking if anyone has had a chance to look into your issue. Don't create a new thread for the same issue, as it will likely just be deleted.
Blanking out your thread isn't some clever hack around this — it's just vandalism. I've restored this thread.

Someone will investigate your issue and respond here when they're able to do so.
  • If you try again now it should work. You created, renamed, and deleted multiple accounts with overlapping usernames which resulted in a state we hadn't accounted for.

There is generally no reason you should need to do this. We allow changing your username so you don't need to delete an account and break syncing just because you want a different username. You should only delete your account if you do not plan on using Zotero again.
