In EPUB, when double click to select text, trailing space is included with the punctuation.

Open EPUB file, double click to select text, then drag it to the end of the sentence and see that the space right after the punctuation is also included.

The behavior of selecting text should be similar between PDF and EPUB files.

  • I can't reproduce that.

    1) Does it happen with all EPUB files?
    2) Could you make a screenshot (or even a video) demonstrating the issue?
  • 1) Yes.
    2) https://youtu.be/B7Lv6QaE078. Let me know if it's still not clear.

    Thanks for the quick response!
  • Thanks for the video!

Unfortunately, this is the behavior of text selection in Firefox (upon which Zotero is based) on Windows. However, we will consider trimming the spaces around the selection when creating an annotation.

Could you have a second look at this issue? I just found out that in the highlight mode in EPUB, the text selection is done correctly.

In the video below, the first part shows the trailing space included, and the latter part shows that in the highlight mode, the trailing space is not included. Text selection is done by double-clicking the word.

  • I think this happens because trailing spaces are removed when you create a highlight or underline annotation (on Windows). Selecting text in highlight mode results in a partially created annotation.
