Google Docs HTML in bibliography

    I can now add a bibliography. Unfortunately, it is completely scrambled. Here is a couple of examples:

    How can I get this bibliography back to a normal appearing list of references?

    Interesting. When I pasted the scrambled references, they corrected themselves when I submitted my comment. I don't really know what field codes are but is the issue related? Fixable? I have pasted in snip image of what the google doc looks like:

    @ccm5u can you reproduce this in a new document? If not, then it's most likely caused by some item that you have cited having an URL field that contains a quote " character. You can fix it by replacing it with a %22 in Zotero.

    Thank you. The same issue occurs if I copy the google doc file. Are you saying that the " character is in the reference cited, e.g. the title? Or somewhere else? If I can find a " character, how would I replace it with a %22 in Zotero?

    Is this an example of what you are referring to? Starting after 'available from...' there is a " before 'https' but it seems to just be referring to the URL not that the " is contained within the URL? How can I find the " character you suspect is causing me trouble?

    This is an item in your Zotero library that contains a quote " character in its URL field. If the bibliography was formatted well until now, it's likely some item that you have inserted recently. You can find it in your Zotero library by opening the Advanced Search dialog (a button next to search in Zotero 6, or in the menu accessed by clicking the search magnifying glass in Zotero 7 Beta), selecting to search by URL field (click on Title -> More -> URL), and typing in a ".

    Thank you. I was able to follow these instructions. Unfortunately, the search for a " character did not reveal any hits in My Library. What else can I try to get the references back to normal?

    See Troubleshooting Errors in Word Processor Documents, particularly the last step. You should figure out which citation is causing the bibliography to be displayed as HTML.

    Thank you. That strategy worked and I found the 'bad' reference and removed it.

    Now I have a lingering problem of the citations not populating easily in the document. I have to delete some text and reinsert the citation a few times before I can get the document to update and insert a new citation. Often I get the following image. I am not sure why I am seeing the shadow box behind the normal red text entry box, which seems to be associated with the citations not being entered into the text.
