Zotero 7 beta: Dark mode display issues

The library displays with alternating black and grey shading (one row black, the next row grey), making it very difficult to read. Compared to the item pane on the right side which appears in a nice, consistent grey background which is much easier to read.

The new interface is great! Alternate shading is a useful option but I do find the alternating shading harder to read, especially in dark mode. It would be good to have an option to toggle the alternate shading in Settings > General > Interface
  • On macOS, the contrast between shading is much more aggressive than in the Finder, and than the Linux version of Zotero.
  • The light mode has the same visibility issue as the dark mode (alternate rows are grey / white). A consistent background like Zotero 6 is much easier to read.
  • We've reduced the contrast, particularly in dark mode, in beta 57.

The alternating shading has been the default forever on macOS, where it's standard, and many Windows users over the years saw the Mac version and requested that we bring it to Windows. We never had a Mac user see the Windows version and ask for an undifferentiated block of white. We might consider adding a preference to disable this on Windows and Linux, but we think it's a pretty clear usability improvement, so please give it a try with the reduced contrast.
  • The reduced contrast is a great improvement. Much easier on the eyes.

Agree with @pcinque - the reduced contrast is nice.

Thank you for such a great product and for being so responsive to the users. I know you can't make everybody happy all of the time but you guys do a great job trying to accommodate everyone!
