Zotero plugin and PubMed -- wonky author names

Hi, I have noticed that adding records to my library from PubMed article pages in Chrome isn't working right -- the author first and last names are reversed.

Examples (not sure if it's more widespread):

https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36655014/
https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/31747339/

Jr, B., Em, B., Cm, P., & Ms, G. (2023). Racial and Ethnic Composition of Students, Graduates, and Faculty in Environmental Health Sciences, 2011 to 2021. Environmental Health Insights, 17. https://doi.org/10.1177/11786302221150688
Ms, G., Cm, P., Jr, B., Rm, K., & Cg, H. (2020). Racial/Ethnic Diversity in Academic Public Health: 20-Year Update. Public Health Reports (Washington, D.C. : 1974), 135(1). https://doi.org/10.1177/0033354919887747

I can't see how to check for an extension update but the version I am using is 5.0.112. My Chrome and my Zotero are both up to date.

Adding records from those webpages by DOI works fine.

I also wrote to the NLM help desk.

I'm not seeing that now — both pages save correctly for me. Are you still seeing this?
  • Closing the loop -- the problem went away. Thanks though!
  • Hi there, I am having this problem.
    For example: https://pubmed.ncbi.nlm.nih.gov/36949653/
Is being imported into Zotero as:
    L, R., J, T., C, I., & N, R. (2023). Online youth concussion resources for Canadian teachers and school staff: A systematic search strategy. Brain Injury, 37(10). https://doi.org/10.1080/02699052.2023.2192525
Chrome: Version 149.0.7827.158 (Official Build) (arm64)
    Zotero app: 9.0.4
    Zotero connector version: 5.0.210
  • That happens when pubmed import fails and Zotero falls back to metadata in the page. That shouldn't happen frequently and it shouldn't be happening right now -- can you try again?
  • It is happening now with the same example.

Can you provide a Debug ID from the Zotero Connector for reloading the page and reproducing it?
  • The Debug ID is D642853161.

You have to reload the page before re-saving.
  • I assume you mean the pubmed page, but I restarted Chrome and redid all the steps to be safe. That did not solve the issue. D1508950163
Sorry if I am missing something basic here.

I meant to generate a Debug ID with any useful info. You did it correctly this time.

Your Zotero isn't even detecting the page as PubMed — note that it's saying "Embedded Metadata" instead of "PubMed" when you hover over the save button. Try disabling all your other browser extensions. If it still happens, provide another Debug ID for reloading the page.
  • Thank you for your help! I narrowed it down to one of my browser extensions.
