Would very much like Innovative Encore Interface

Sorry if this has been discussed -- was not apparent to me how to search your forums.
  • I also would like to see an Encore interface. Several libraries in my area (including the one at my own college) are moving in this direction.
  • Please post some links to library catalogs using this system. If we can get a set of different libraries we can think about abstracting a translator that can work across them.
  • Here are a couple:

    http://discover.lib.msu.edu/iii/encore/app

    http://encore.unl.edu/iii/encore/app

    Thanks!
  • Great, thanks. I added theses links to an existing ticket https://www.zotero.org/trac/ticket/1343
  • Here are other libraries using Encore

    CUHK's Library
    http://library.cuhk.edu.hk/screens/cat2.html

    HKU's Library
    http://encore.hku.hk/iii/encore/Home,$Search.form.sdirect?formids=target&lang=eng&suite=def&reservedids=lang,suite&target=
  • Thanks I've added them to the ticket.
  • Another important library using Encore:

    Universidad Complutense de Madrid
    http://encore.sim.ucm.es
  • Could you also add the University of Glasgow Library to the ticket:

    http://encore.lib.gla.ac.uk/iii/encore/home?lang=eng
  • The New York Public Library recently switched to Encore also. There are few library catalogs in the world visited more than NYPL.

  • How to use the ticket???
    thx
  • you can't "use" a ticket.
Think of it as a "don't forget" note for program developers.
  • Then, how can i download the records from Encore library?
    thx
  • apparently not yet - hence the ticket.
  • The various libraries in Rhode Island (Brown, Providence College, Univ. of Rhode Island, etc.) are also using Encore. They're over at:

    http://library.uri.edu/
  • Just a head start for anybody who takes on writing a translator for this. Encore sits on top of a "Classic Catalog" and gets info from it. I checked 5 of the Encore catalogs mentioned in the ticket and all of them linked from the Encore display of a title to the classic catalog display. Also, all of the catalogs worked with Zotero in their classic form, though you might need to click on the MARC link first. So a translator that found Encore could look for the classic catalog and get info from there. Of course, we users can do the same until an Encore Translator is created.
  • Has there been any movement on this? The University of San Diego, where I work, uses the Encore system, thus:

    http://sallypro.sandiego.edu/iii/encore/home?lang=eng
  • For a new library search system, Encore seems pretty weak when it comes to integration... Some of the Encore installations have Refworks integration, but not all of them. The approach of going to the Classic Catalog and getting MARC data works, but the underlying catalogs vary too much for a translator for all Encore systems to do that automatically.

If possible, some Encore libraries should contact their reps at the company to ask for metadata export. Otherwise, the basic data is presented fairly consistently on the result pages-- I can make a translator in a few weeks or so when I have more time.
  • I see other Encore libraries are working, but not the one where I work: http://encore.fresno.edu/iii/encore/home?lang=eng

rschellenberg (and others) - update your translators (general tab of Zotero prefs).

Encore libraries should have started working last week - I committed a translator on October 23. I tried with the Fresno catalog, e.g. here:
    http://encore.fresno.edu/iii/encore/record/C__Rb1260269__Sargentina__P0%2C5__Orightresult__X5?lang=eng&suite=cobalt
and that works fine for me.
Any problems please provide specific links.
