Zotero 6.0.28 - Word Plugin doesn't react

The word plugin only shows as a "blank space" in the task bar. I can select the blank space and it shows all of the zotero options, but there is no reaction when I click any of them. No error message either.
I use the newest version of word and tried reinstalling zotero and the word plug in multiple times. I also checked and tried every suggested solutions for plugin troubleshootings.

    Go to your Word Startup folder, delete Zotero.dotm, and restart Word to confirm that Zotero is completely gone from Word. Then close Word and reinstall the plugin from the Cite pane of the Zotero app settings.

    Unfortunately that doesn’t change anything.

    Was it working previously for you on this computer, or is this a fresh install?

    What exact Word version?

    It was working for me a while ago on that computer. Then I faced the Visual Basic for Applications error, which I didn’t manage to solve. That was when I de- and reinstalled zotero completely and also downloaded a newer version of word. I am using version 16.77.1
