When creating a new item unable to enter a URL that creates a functioning hyperlink in my bibliograp

1. Start Zetero & add new item
2. Complete entries including add URL
3. Paste URL from the archive website into the item
4. Create bibliography in MS Word but it does not then appear as a hyperlink in my bibliography so cannot be accessed by the user.

It cannot even be separated out from the rest of the entry uing the cut & paste (MS Word) function as a work around for the user.

the link is below as copied

  • That's standard behavior. If you're going to share or publish a file with Zotero citations, you'll want to share a copy (!) with Zotero citations unlinked. That will solve the cut/copy & paste issue and is generally recommended for all reference managers to prevent undesirable behavior.
If you want hyperlinked citations, you can then (after unlinking), manually run Auto Format for the bibliography in Word (the functionality is a bit hidden if Word, but not hard to google if you look together with your Word version), and that will hyperlink all URLs (if you only have a couple, you can also just manually add a space after them.
  • Is there any hope that the bibliography in MS Word can eventually include links where the displayed text is different from the actual URL text? It's unnecessarily space-consuming to show the full URL, and the main service to the reader can accomplished by including a brief, clickable word like [link].
  • That's a completely different questions -- as written ('any hope', 'eventually') the answer is yes. It's been requested before and there have been some conversations about it. But in the near future (say, next year/12 months)? Definitely not.
  • Thank you for the quick response and the perspective.
