De-duplication and reporting in PRISMA

edited August 10, 2023
Hi everyone, brand new to zotero here.
I am conducting a SR and MA. I exported my final search results into zotero, separating them out into different databases. I have got total number of articles for each database (pubMed, Web of science etc). I have now also merged all duplicates from my duplicate folder. However when I scan through the database folders I can still see duplicates across the folders, I'm not sure a) not how de-duplication works on zotero as I thought merging the duplicates meant there wouldnt still be duplicates across the databases b) how would I then report duplicates in my PRISMA flowchart? was this the number that was in the duplicates folder before merging or the articles I currently see in the database folder c) if I see duplicate articles across my folders do I delete them or make a separate folder and report this in my PRISMA flowchart?

I want to be thorough in what I am doing and to make sure I'm doing it right, any help would be greatly appreciated.

Thank you,
  • Hi, I have the same problem but i haven't found a solution yet..this is very annoying because i thought that zotero could have told the exact amount of duplicates after merging them. Maybe you can export your bibliography in excell and try to remove again the duplicates in excell, so you can have the number.

Tell me if you find a solution, thank you.
  • After you merge items, the merged item will remain a part of each collection the original items were part of. After merging, you can see the total number of de-duplicated items in the top My Library (or Group library) view (the one with the brown box icon). To see the number of items that came from each database, look in the collection/folder for that database.

I strongly recommend making a new group library for each systematic review that is kept separate from your other libraries, to facilitate this sort of counting and analysis.
