Citing the same authors on articles published in the same year

Hello,

I'm using APA 7 (American Psychological Association (APA) 7th edition.

I have referenced two articles published in the same year by the same authors. The references are marked 2021a and 2021b ( I believe) based on the alphabetical order of the titles. However, they should be cited based on the publishing time so that the article published first would be A. Currently, the A and the B are the wrong way around.

Any advice on how to correct this?
  • Sorting alphabetically by title and assigning the a, b suffix in order is correct APA style, you shouldn't change it. (It also makes much more sense systematically to have coherent sorting in the bibliography rather than introduce sorting by oder of appearance in the text for this one special case).
If you must change it, you can do so by adding a sort condition by citation-number in the sort conditions for both citation and bibliography in the CSL, but again, you really don't need to.
