Zotero tab missing from Word

Hi all. I just spent a while searching for how to get the Zotero tab to show in Word. The documentation was great n getting me to where it is stored in my file tree. But the only way I can get it to appear is by actually clicking the Zotero file in my Word Startup folder. Them I get a Zotero tab in a blank Word window. I thought I would be able to open a file from there and keep the Zotero tab, but no joy -- the newly opened file does not have the Zotero tab. So, I can start a document from scratch and use the Word plug in, but cannot use it within a started document (and I'm an editor, currently about to start a project working on modifying references already placed in-text using Zotero...)

And -- this is *after* uninstalling and reinstalling Zotero in full

I use installed Word 2016, Windows.

Any thoughts?

That would really suggest that the .dotm isn't actually in your startup folder -- how have you verified your startup folder?

I followed Zotero's instructions, and Microsoft's

I showed hidden folders in the explorer, went to appdata and user and Word and there it was. I have a screencap of path, but can't post it here.

Is there a way to ensure it is actually there?

Right, that's where the Zotero.dotm is, but you should confirm that's actually where Word is looking as it appears not to pick it up. That's the second para on https://www.zotero.org/support/word_processor_plugin_manual_installation#locating_your_word_startup_folder

If changes you make to the Startup folder aren't taking effect, you can confirm that Word isn't set to a different location. In the Word ribbon, click the File tab, click Options, and click Advanced. Under General, click File Locations. The Startup folder should be listed there.

Thanks Adam -- I just double-checked, and that takes me to where I have been, and the Zotero file is in that startup file, along with some other add ins which do appear in their tabs when I start Word.

That did the trick, thank you! It was unticked in the add-ons list and is now present and accounted for! Thank you so much Adam.
