Hi all, would be grateful if anyone could help with the following please!

I wrote a chapter in MS Word and used Zotero for my citing/referencing. I sent the chapter to my supervisor and they sent back it back as a word document with comments. I am now trying to edit the chapter but Zotero is not recognising any of the previous references. When I click on the in text citations, it treats them as static text and any new references do not integrate with the previous bibliography but rather appear as a new and separate bibliography. This is particularly problematic for works written by the same author in the same year as any new citations I add do not have the a/b/c/ that corresponds with the original document. Is there a way to get Zotero to recognise the previous references? How do I prevent this from happening going forwards?
