Citations "updating" in Google Docs

Hello,

I am having trouble with creating citations in Google Docs. No issues saving data from Chrome, nor any issues opening and selecting a source to cite. However, while some sources cite, most of them just say "updating" forever and never actually do. Not sure why some work when most don't. I thought maybe it might be because the first one that worked had a link instead of a pdf but I tried others with links and others with pdfs and none of them worked after that first one. Other than that, I cannot see a pattern for why one works and the others don't. Further, I tried to check for updates and it says one is available but that I do not have permission to download it. Why would this be and how can I get permission?

Thank you,

Rose

In Zotero, you mean? Do you have administrator access on your computer? While it probably doesn't matter here, you should make sure you're running the latest version of Zotero (currently 6.0.16) from the download page.

For Google Docs, restart Zotero and your browser, and make sure a dialog isn't just appearing behind Zotero or your browser window.

If not that, try disabling all other third-party browser extensions and reloading Google Docs.

You can also try enabling Google Docs integration v2 in the Advanced pane of the Zotero Connector preferences, but there's a Google Docs bug that can result in errors in some documents with that enabled. (But when it works, it's much faster, and can avoid some causes of this problem.)
  • Well, I didn't realize that I could download the new version on top of the old instead of updating from within Zotero. Updating it seems to have fixed the problem.
  • Nevermind, it worked until I tried to do multiple citations at once and now it doesn't work at all again. I'll try your other suggestions and get back to you
