Simple search no longer searches subfolders

In the most recent 2.0 beta I notice that simple search terms typed into the search box do not search items in subfolders.

Did it ever? Should it do this when the parent collections don't actually display the items in the child collections by default?
You should be able to use the recursivecollections hidden pref:
